Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior official commented the incident rendered him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
