Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
